Description
This is a collaboration I did with my good friend
I absolutely adore her accuracy and style with Jhonen Vasquez and the neatness of her lineart; but she never colors anything
Because I desperately wanted to; and to get some more advertizing for her, I colored a pic of hers.
I promised her this soooo long ago, but she's been patient with me, so that's more than enough
I never realized how hard it would be to shade cartoons. If anything I thought I'd half-ass it and it'd be far too easy; but actually when your so used to doing relistic shadows and such cartooning can be quite tough. I had to the huge desire to blend different skin tones, and put opacity inthe glasses and such- but that's not what the picture was suited for, so it was a whole new ball game for me
I had fun making different textures for the wood and chalkboard. The background I was a bit unsure with, so just threw in some gradient clouds, turned up the levels almost entirely, and added a lens flare (cause cartoons usually have a sort of faded BG like that when it comes to old school comic books and such
All and all, I think I did a decent job. The hair I had a bit of trouble with, and the lineart I kept wishing I could make thicker (gahhh if ONLY I had Illustrator >.< the live-trace function would fix it no problem) but using poste edges seemed to do the trick.
So yes, if you didn't catch that:

coloring by me!
