Kato for AS contest

Whoo! It was full of hell but I finally did it. I didn't think i'd finnish a submission in time, but I pushed for it.

I made this for the Angel Sanctuary Club (which needs more members so if ya love AS JOIN) for their first contest.

This picture has a LOT wrong with it. For the contest I had many ideas I wanted to do, but they were all too complicated or simply too HARD. I wanted to make a collage with all my thousands of practice pics and one new one I would draw, but the pose never panned out.

I keep forgetting I can't pull off half the things my head comes up and ohhh what torture that is! This picture came out of my daily practice. So far I only have one other FINNISHED pic of a full drawn Kato, so I figured I'd just practice some of that. I wanted it to be a little more complicated, but ohh well, it works. So voila' I came up with this.

I liked the angle for the face, and the ghoul hands were able to make the picture interesting enough that I didn't have to worry with much of a BG. They were fun to draw.

I kind of liked the sketch at first but it was only after I uploaded it I realized all the mistakes I'd made. (Like the legs for instance, I loved the sketchiness and detail I put in the fabrics so it seemed a shame to erase them, but it makes him kind of slouch like L, too much DeathNote for me o.O)
I also had 50,00 problems with the head! Including resizing it, layer troubles, and even at one point taking out his eye putting it in another program and then editing back! No matter what I did something was always wrong, and I've lost faith in my new adobe photoshop because I have recently discovered it can't rotate or shrink or enlarge(A.K.A sketch and scew) which I used often in my other program (cause I always get angles wrong) So this was made with a little bit of help from psp

Needless to say I gave up 5 different times, and tried to scrap it- but I couldn't come up with much else so I forced myself to finnish.

Thats about it, theres a lot of things I could complain about but I've already taken up too much space.

THE GOOD:
There ARE some things I like about it. I feel his face is getting closer in accuracy, which makes me happy that all my practice hasn't been for nothing. And wow this uploaded nciely! It looks a lot better than I thought it would. The colors actually came our right.
This also taught me how to use many new things in Photoshop, including flattening layers and adjusting gradients. I've even drawn in a few things to a sketch, which I never thought was possible. I origonally wanted a pic of him smirking cause I love his cocky angry smile, but with this picture it didn't work too well. I didn't like the shape of his mouth so I actually redrew it on the computer and added the cigarrete- which I'm pretty satsified with- (and No, I don't condone drugs...their just fun to draw and I needed more to add to his character.) Since I couldn't do the smirk I wanted him to give the middle finger or something to seem more rebelious. But in the end I went with the cig. Cause,~sigh~ I've drawn him too pretty once again. I'm sorry Kato! I really do want to draw you manly!

The only thing I regret the most is how the pose didn't work out, the legs bug me and I didn't bunch the coat up enough. So maybe I'll crop the picture in the future- I'll put a note up if I edit it.
